Here are pictures of what I have been sewing recently. Right now I am getting ready for An Affair of the Heart in February. It is a big 3-day craft fair at our local fairgrounds. This will be the biggest craft show I have done so far, so I am hoping to get alot sewn! Thankfully I have a friend doing some contract sewing for me which is a huge help :)

This bib was for a custom order on Etsy

I lined the back with a cotton fabric, so it is reversible

These were carseat strap covers, also for a Etsy customer.

They attach with velco so are easily removed for washing...

They can be used for a baby/toddler carseat...

Or you can use them on a regular seat belt

Flannel blanket and burp cloths for a baby gift

Oilcloth diaper and wipe case pouch for another Etsy order...

It has a shower curtain ring on it, so can clip onto the stroller handle

Iron Recommendation...

I am looking for a good iron to replace the one I'm using right now.

Here is what I want:
A good non-stick plate
Heavier weight
Good Steam feature
Gets really hot (I use it on the Linen setting 99% of the time)
Priced up to about $65
Has a warranty
Preferable made in USA, Germany etc. anywhere other than China

What I don't want:
Auto-shut off. I keep mine plugged in for hours at a time, so don't want it shutting off every 10 minutes!
Retractable cord
Removable water container

What kind of iron do you use? What brand is it? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?
On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate it and why? Thanks! :)

Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar Booth

These velcro pouches are a new thing I started selling. I cut them out and Sarah helps me sew them, so with 2 people working on them, we can get more done faster! They have a layer of batting so are perfect for ipods, cellphones, GPS systems etc.

Booth setup from the front. This was the first time I took our EZ-up canopy to an indoor show. It worked great for hanging things on.

Anna and Sarah made the owls.....

I bought some fresh flowers and had them in mason jars....

I strung a wire across the window frame and put the oilcloth bibs on it with clothes pins. The burlap panels are actually these curtains, I just borrowed them from myself :)

Wooden shutter with some of Anna's bamboo handled purses on it. We put some nails in it to hang them from.

These are pictures from the Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar that was last Saturday. It is an all-handmade show that is held at our state fairgrounds every year. It is one of my favorite shows to do because: people appreciate the fact that it is handmade, it's right before Christmas so people are looking for gifts, and it seems like it gets busier and I sell more every year! This was my third year to do it.

Creek Boutique craft fair

These are some pictures from my booth at Creek Boutique craft fair. I was kind of disappointed in my sales at this show. It was a big craft fair (100 booths) and had good traffic the whole day, it just seemed like it wasn't the right market for my items and lots of people weren't there to buy, just looking around.

Anna and Sarah had their own separate booth and did pretty good. They were selling: felt owls, doll clothes, baby doll diapers, purses with bamboo handles, tote bags, fleece hats, felt puppets, and some felt food.

Anna made these felt owls, and sold most of them. I think she only has 2 left :)

Microwave Potato Bags

I started making these last week. They are potato bags, that you cook potatoes in the microwave in. We don't have a microwave, so haven't tried one out yet. People have also said they cook corn in them and use them to warm tortillas and bread. They seem to be popular, because I already sold 4 at my last craft fair :)

I made some more oilcloth bibs this week. Some of them have snaps instead of the ties. I have not really used snaps before, they are really easy to put in... you just hammer them. Now that I know how they work, there are more projects I would like to try them in :)

I tried out some of the stitches on my sewing machine I've never used before for the quilting.

I made this quilted bag yesterday with some scrap fabrics. They are the perfect size to keep small things organized.... so I am planning on making myself a couple more! If any of you are interested in making one, let me know and I can do a tutorial. They are really easy to make, and took me about 25 minutes.

1. I. like. coffee.
2. I believe there is a right and wrong way to load the dishwasher.
3. I really dislike Winter, and am not looking forward to Summer ending.
4. I don't like wearing shoes. The best ones I've found are: Chacos. I own 2 pairs that I got on ebay. They are the best shoes I have worn, and I have tried a bunch! I still like my flip flops, but these are extremely comfortable. I never wear shoes at home....... but have found myself wearing them inside! :)
5. I love getting up early, when the house is quiet and its still dark outside.
6. I like gardening, and am looking forward to putting in a Fall garden soon.
7. I like learning about the human body, herbs, essential oils and natural/alternative healing. Some of the books by my bed right now are: Dr. Mom by Sandra Livingston Ellis, Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss and
The Essential Oils Desk Reference. I am praying about doing Basic EMT next semester.

County Fair 2011

Our County Fair was last weekend. I entered 20 things in the 4H divisions and 11 things in open. On Friday night there was the Icecream Freeze off and Salsa contest. I entered Apple Pie Icecream, Vanilla Icecream and a salsa. I placed 2nd for the Apple Pie icecream! I was pretty excited. After they have judged the icecreams and salsas, everyone gets to try them. Our family entered 10 different icecreams this year. It is something we look forward to every year, and is alot of fun :)

There is a category for re-finishing furniture. I re-finished this desk to enter. I got it free out of one of our neighbor's big junk piles sometime last year. I sanded all the old varnish off, and stained it.

Leather checkbook cover

Stuffed Elephant. I used Heather Bailey's Effie and Ollie Elephant pattern

I made these collages using pictures from magazines. I stuck them to the cardboard with a 50/50 mixture of Elmer's glue and water. When they were dried I sprayed
them with a gloss polyurethane spray.

I like the Geico lizard on this one :)

I painted this mug at a pottery studio last month.

Some of you might have seen this post on Sarah's blog. This is the turtle I made.

A tea towel I embroidered. Usually I start embroidery (or cross-stitch) projects and never finish them. I think I started this one in January of this year and finished it last week.
Thats got to be a record for me! :)

I got this skirt at a thrift store for $1. I think it was originally a size women's 16-18. I made the waist smaller, let out the hem and added the ruffle. Its one of my favorite Summer skirts now :)

Cow Appreciation Day 2011

We went to Chick-Fil-A's "Cow Appreciation Day" this year.
If you dress like a cow, you get free food. It was alot of fun, and we are looking forward to next year!

I sewed/made (with some help!) just about everything. I even made
our Dad a tie. I didn't get any pictures of it, but will take some soon.

Non-sewing projects

Much better. I don't really like wearing pink.... and is not very much of a "pink person"
but its such a fun color who can resist? Especially for ironing boards ;)

Even got some pink grass out of the deal.....

Jonathan made these beds for Anna, Sarah and Lydia's room. I have been working on
staining 2 of them today. We are re-painting their room this week;
It has not been done since we moved 11 years ago, so the ceiling needed patching, the
trim painted etc. It has taken us about 10 days so far. We'll post pictures when its done!

My garden this year. I am only growing Tomatoes and strawberries. This picture was taken a couple weeks ago, so my tomato plants are alot bigger now. This Summer has been so hot the tomatoes are not setting fruit, but I have gotten some cherry tomatoes. This was my 3rd year to try Strawberries. The first year I planted them too late so it was too hot, and last year the chickens ate them. Finally on my third try they seem to be doing well, and sending out runners. I am looking forward to getting strawberries next Summer :)

I have been a real bad blogger lately. Haven't posted in over a month.... I have alot to catch up on. I have still been doing some sewing, but in the Summer I'd rather be outside! I can sew all Winter, right? :) Hopefully by the end of this week, I should have some new posts up......

Farmers Market

We did our first Farmers Market booth last week. We are doing it every Wednesday and the second Saturday of every month during the Summer. We have my sewing for sale, handmade greeting cards, woodworking by Jonathan, homemade Lemonade and Peach tea.

I made these aprons this week. The fabric is by Debbie Mumm that I got at JoAnn last Summer. I hate how JoAnn fabric stores discontinues fabric so fast, they quit selling it, and I only got enough to make a couple aprons. Otherwise I would have ordered a bolt of it! It is perfect for aprons. Oh, well...... :)

Closeup of the quilting

This is a snap bag I made for our GPS yesterday. It has 2 layers of batting. The top closes with pieces of a metal tape measure.... hence the name "snap" bag :) I looked online for a tutorial, but didn't find a very good one. I did find this one for sale on Etsy. If anyone is interested in how I made it, just leave me a comment and I will do a tutorial post. They are pretty easy to make, and would make great pencil cases, makeup bags etc.

T-shirt makeover

"Before"
A shirt I got free at the homeschool convention from a local college. It was a adult size XL.

"After"
I cut the pieces apart, cut it to the size of one of my favorite t-shirts and then re-sewed the shoulder and side seams. I used a stretch stitch on my sewing machine. I also added some ruching to the sides to make it shorter, as it was way too long. Basically for the ruching I sewed a running/basting stitch, gathered it and then sewed over it with a regular size stitch and removed the basting threads. I orginally got the ideas from HERE and HERE on Olivia's blog.

I left the seam in the sleeve, just gathered the top before sewing the sleeve back on and sewing some elastic on the lower edge to gather it in. It was a pretty easy project to do, took me about an hour. I didn't have to hem a thing either..... it was all *done* for me, I just left all the original hems :)

All the Twirly Dresses and Tiered Jean skirts on the new rack I got a Ikea. I was so happy to find it when we went to one of their locations in Texas last week. It will be perfect for craft fairs as it has wheels, is adjustable in height, is easy to set up (uses only an allen wrench) and it very lighweight. Here is the link to it on their website.

The booth at our local homeschool convention went really well. I sold most of my skirts and dresses on the first day, and wish I had sewn more! This was the first time to have the jean skirts and twirly dresses for sale. One lady bought a twirly dress for her daughter the first day. On the second day, she came back and bought another one, because her daughter liked it so much and wore it to school that day! It is neat to see people who bought things last year, come back. The Lord has really been blessing my sewing business, and I am thankful for the talents and abilities He has blessed me with. :) I am planning on applying for Affair of the Heart this fall. If you have never been, it is a huge craft show out at our fairgrounds, with 5 or 6 buildings full. I went this Spring to check it out, so think I'll give it a try! It is a 3-day show.

This is a pillow cover I made for my reading wedge. I got the fabric at Sooner Quilts which I mentioned in this post. I put an invisible zipper on the bottom. I really like how it turned out!

Twirly Dresses

I made these dresses a few weeks ago for some Missionary friends. I made 5 total. Lydia is modeling them for me in the pictures.

I got the shirts at Old Navy and they are so much nicer quality than the ones I have used from Target/Walmart etc. They didn't stretch out as much as the other shirts I have tried. The fabrics are all from Hobby Lobby. They are the same pattern as this one I made Lydia a while back. Happy Sewing! :)

Foldover waist skirt

I made myself this skirt this week. I did a foldover knit waistband. I saw these ones on Etsy and made myself one like it. The fabrics are from Hobby Lobby. The polka dotted one and the pink/brown paisley.
I'm also working on a quilt for myself. I am using the Ohio Star pattern for the blocks, and have 11 of the 35 blocks sewn. I'll post pictures when I get it done!
I passed my driving test a few weeks ago, so am pretty excited :)

I am having a booth at this craft fair in December. They are doing artist profiles and I was featured on their blog which you can see HERE.

It is going to be held at the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds in the Centennial Building on December 11. It goes from 11am-5pm.

Hopefully I can get some pictures up sometime this week of the sewing I've been doing recently. There should be some pictures coming of some new aprons, onesies, and other sewing!
Been really busy lately with some gardening jobs, trying to keep *my* garden alive ;) and just LIFE! I'm growing my tomatoes in 5-gallon buckets this year, so I guess I'll see how they grow.... maybe I can get some pics of my garden on here too!

I made the tiered skirt that Lydia is wearing..... she's the one on the left. :) The girl on the right is a friend. I made the skirt mainly from scraps of fabric leftover from other projects, which are always nice to get rid of in my opinion!

I finally learned a basic crocheting stitch! I've made a few dishcloths so far.... I really like this yarn it holds up well! Need to work on my tension though.... :)

I made myself this skirt this morning.... the pattern is a A-line style with an elastic waist. I bought fabric to make another skirt... but when I washed it, it shrunk 1/2 a yard.... so now I don't have enough. A good excuse to go to Hobby Lobby :)

One-Yard Wonders book

I got this book out from the library. It has some neat projects that I want to make. All the projects only need 1 yard (or less) of fabric.... which is a nice way to use up those smaller pieces of fabric that can't be used for much else... :)

These are some doll quilts I made for my sisters.....

I left the edges on this one raw, so they will fray.....

Our sewing machines are in the shop right now, and I'm having my scissors sharpened.... so am not able to do any sewing right now!

There is a 4H sewing contest in April that I am planning on entering things in..... so I need to get started on those soon. I am planning on making a 8-gored denim skirt for myself and a sweater with this pattern: McCalls 5252 Anna and Sarah are also planning on entering some tiered skirts in the 4H contest too..... so I need to help them finish those..... Hopefully more posts coming soon!

I made another Etsy shop yesterday for Spit Tunes. They are basically spit rags for people who play wind instruments (5 in our family!) so when they open their spit valves.... it doesn't go on the carpet... not good! ;) I think Daddy came up with the name....

This is the latest project I have been working on. I had bought a pillow similar to this at JoAnn's... and mainly bought it so I could copy the design! I am planning to put a fabric backing on the back and tabs at the top so I will be able to hang it on a dowel.

It has been a while since I last blogged! The booth I had at the Craft fair about 2 weeks ago went really well. We forgot to take the camera... so therefore have no pictures of the booth! Oh, well.... hopefully I'll remember next time! :)

I made this denim banner today. It is to hang on the front of the table at the craft fair this weekend..... I made it from mainly denim, the letters are appliqued on with cotton fabric and I made the bias tape (which was fun but took a long time!)

I made this skirt out of some jeans last week. It turned out pretty good, but I don't like how the front looks. I should have topstitched in blue thread instead of orange... in my opinion. I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to sewing! :o)
I'm still sewing for the craft fair this Saturday. I'm just about done... I'll get some pictures of my booth on here after it's over! There is a contest for best booth display and the prize is $50 and a free booth next show... so thats what I'm trying for. ;) We'll see.....

Oilcloth pencil case

I made this pencil case out of oilcloth last week. The oilcloth is pretty hard to work with because the top side is kind of sticky feeling and gets stuck to the presser foot :)

This is such a great seam ripper! Its a nice size, and pretty hard to lose! I was continually losing seam rippers before I got this one.... I guess the bright purple makes it stand out! :)

Busyness.....

I just thought I'd leave a quick update on here... since this is a blog, and blogs are supposed to be updated! :)

I have been busy making lots of things for the craft fair next month. I think I have about 30 blankets made so far! Next things to make baby shoes, burp cloths, bibs, nursing cover ups, and pacifier clips. I have all the supplies, just need to find the time! :)

Last week I found a really neat metal display shelf (kind of like a baker type shelf you would find in kitchens), with hooks etc. at a garage sale. It will be perfect to hang things on at the booth.

Craft fair booth

I will be having a booth at the Indie Craft Fair on December 12, 2009.

It will be at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, in the Modern Living building, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. - with free admission and entertainment all day!

Put this date on your calender if you live near by, and plan on coming! :)

Now I need to get busy sewing......
